IHPVA - World Land Speed Record

The IHPVA Speed Challenge is scheduled from 9-14th September 2013. Our plans are to run some domestic (UK ) based speed tests with Graeme and The Beastie over the next 2-3 months, with a view to participating at the IHPVA event at Battle Mountain, Nevada. Graeme is building a new fairing and we will make our plans known once the fairing is complete.

Mounting a bid to attempt to beat the World Land Speed record is a huge challenge. Graeme Obree's bid has secured the backing of some exciting and innovative Scottish and British business' and brands, business and brands which strive to be the best in their own markets. We are indebted for the support given by our partners.

Graeme Obree is famous for making and breaking records, world records and the latest chapter in his well chronicled story is in the throes of being written.

The International Human Powered Vehicle Association governs human powered challenges on the land, sea and air records. The current IHPVA land speed record is 82.819mph, a record held by Canadian Sam Whittingham. The IHPVA records are normally attempted upon fully faired, recumbent style bicycles. The vehicle design necessary to deliver the optimum aerodynamic benefit and reduce drag.

Graeme has his sights set on this record and has started the preparation to mount a serious challenge on this record and bring The IHPVA land speed record home to Scotland. The Flying Scotsman prepares to fly again might be the headlines as Graeme sets out on this unique adventure aboard his latest 'homemade' bike.
